Introduction
Hello. I am Professor Pourquoi, and I am the author of the Vikki the Vet series.
I have written Vikki the Vet because I love animals:
I love people’s pets (from the Abyssinian to the Zuchon), I love farm animals (from the alpaca to the zebu), I love wild animals (from the aardvark to the zebra), and I also appreciate everybody who cares for and cares about animals.
There’s a maxim in storytelling that says “show don’t tell,” but I’ve included the introduction below to tell you what I’m going to be showing you.
Once a month, starting with A and ending with Z, I’ll be releasing a new story highlighting the adventures of Vikki the Vet.
I hope you enjoy them!
Sincerely,
Professor Pourquoi
Professor Pourquoi Presents: The Tales of Vikki the Vet
Vikki Vega is a veterinarian.
She is a very good veterinarian.
She is quite bright.
People call Vikki Vega “Vikki the Vet”.
Vikki the Vet was born and bred in Boston.
But now she lives in Virginia.
Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Over the course of this series Vikki the Vet will:
attend to Andre the Alligator, bandage Becky the Bruin, see Chloe the Chameleon, diagnose a duck, sew an emu a muumuu, find a frog and name him Phileas, greet Gustav the German Giraffe, hear a horse trainer, inspect Izzy the Iguana, help Jacinda the Jacana, donate to Kids for Koalas, listen to a lion, meet Monty the Monkey, nurse a newt, operate on an orangutan, probe a pigeon, cure a quail named Quincy, perform rhinoplasty on a rhinoceros, sail to the Seychelles, treat a tiger, analyze a urial’s urine, vaccinate a vulture, warn a woodpecker, soothe a Xolo (show-low) named Rollo, examine Yuri the Yak, and, last but not least, Vikki the Vet will visit a zoo.
And over the course of this series, we will:
learn about animals; learn what veterinarians do;
learn a little geography; learn a few new facts;
and, hopefully,
we will come to appreciate the natural world even more.
P.S. There is a lot of alliteration.
P.P.S. And a propensity for puns.
